Music requires a fully developed talent consisting of knowledge,
skill, and dedication. The pedagogical art is essential to that full
development along established concepts of a pure conservatory education.
Prospective employers, even including many university music departments,
depend largely upon the demonstrated competence of conservatory graduates.
Success is based primarily on effective and total pedagogical control. Experience
tells us that music is dependent upon talent, ethics, inspiration, and
creativity, allowing it to function as a significant spiritual and educational
force world-wide. The overriding purpose of a conservatory of music is to
help individual students turn talent, inspiration, creativity, and dedication
into a polished professional product that serves a significant development
to musical culture in its multiple dimensions. Therefore, the focus of RICM's
work is on issues of musical pedagogy and educational substance as applied
to the preparation of music professionals.
